The Secretary's Report

Cranmog AGM January 2022.
We currently have approx. 230 members who have registered their CranMog membership this year. This includes 10 overseas members. I have not updated my email circulation list of members recently so I suspect I am still sending emails out to those who may not have updated their membership which would account for the discrepancy in numbers. I don’t think we have lost over 80 members this year. Also, some of those registering are only entering one person’s details for registration purposes.
This should all be sorted once the Membership list is renewed in April.
We do not circulate our Membership list to members as per the MSCC policy.
This last year has once again been difficult and although we have managed to attend events and get together again it has still been a very different year from those before the Covid pandemic. Certainly the events that we managed to attend were far fewer than previous years.
Thank you to those who managed to organise the events that we attended. As ever I am very grateful to you, otherwise we would not a chance to meet up together.
We always need members to organise events and if you wish to arrange any events, please contact the Event Coordinator to discuss the possible dates. I would also like to encourage more members to become involved in arranging events. You do not have to be an expert but if you have any ideas about things that you would like to do and that you think others would also enjoy, please think about arranging it. It does not have to be onerous and it could just be arranging a visit to somewhere or a drive out for lunch.
The CranMog monthly noggins re started again in September at The Cross Keys pub, in Pulloxhill.
We meet on the second Wednesday of the month. Numbers attending are certainly down from previous years. We currently have to keep the pub updated with numbers of those planning to attend.
We are still looking for another venue to hold our meetings as the Cross Keys is not ideal.
Every member of CranMog, the MSCC or guests are very welcome to come to our meetings.
As well as the Noggins we are continuing to make use of the CranMog Zoom account and have a monthly Zoom meeting on the 4th Wednesday of the month at 8pm. It has been a useful way again to keep in touch with each other. We renewed our Zoom account for another year in July. This gives us the ability to have Zoom meetings for longer than the 40 minutes allowed on the free accounts.
We regularly have 15 – 20 shared screens and at the other times fewer but it is a great opportunity to stay in touch with each other and also see members who do normally attend our noggins as they do not live locally. I am very grateful to those who join me and are happy to participate in my sometimes ‘daft’ ideas. We even managed to have a CranMog Virtual Race night over Zoom in November and raised over £300 for the Medical Detection Dogs charity. Many thanks to Karen Moody for arranging it. Our Zoom meetings will continue for the foreseeable future.
This Zoom account is also available to be used by members at any time. If you wish to use it please email me and I will set up a meeting for you. It has been used by a few of our members which is pleasing.
All of our communication to members is via email or our website. Our events are also published in our Centre report in Miscellany. We do not have a newsletter but encourage members to submit a report on events either to Miscellany or our website www.cranmog.org. I circulate the monthly ‘Matters to Discuss’ for our meetings a few days beforehand to all members, this would give everyone a chance to see what we have been doing and what we are about to do. I have continued my ‘Sunday Sermons’ over the past year. Not quite so regularly as before but I hope they have continued to entertain you in some way. Once again, thank you very much to all who email me back to thank me. It is also lovely to hear from you as well. I try to reply but sometimes I can’t quite manage to reply back to you. I read them all though and very much appreciate them.
As a Centre we have occasional costs. Some admin or stamps costs, we also try and send cards/flowers to members who have been poorly, have a special birthday/anniversary or sadly have died. However, please remember I can only send our best wishes if I have been informed about the occasion. We also buy small gifts to thank those who have organised some of our events or to thank club officers who have retired from their officer posts. I estimate a budget of between £250 - £300 would cover this. I haven’t given the full details of our expenditure, merely an idea of the kind of thing that a membership fee goes towards.
For any trips/events organised by members on behalf of the Centre we use the CranMog Bank account to hold deposits paid in and to make payments. This saves any member from having to pay for anything out of their own funds and also protects our members. We pay a fee for the running of the website and now for the Zoom account and we provide Regalia for members which makes a very small income for the centre.
As a club we have very few assets; 2 CranMog sail flags and 2 ‘event’ tents/gazebos. Please see attached copy of the Treasurer’s report for full details.
We have a large membership. Subscription for membership previously has been at £4 per member. We suspended payment of the subscription in 2015 and have not charged a membership fee since, as we believed we had sufficient funds. New members still paid £4 to join. In 2020/2021 we also suspended the joining fee for new members due to the Covid restrictions and that we have not been able to operate in our usual way. Sadly, I have not yet met any of our new members who have joined this year. In line with our Constitution, this year we propose charging a membership subscription once more to current members and new members. From 2010 until 2015 we charged members £4 per person. We do not have a joint membership, everyone joins as an individual member. This year we propose increasing the fee by £1 to £5 per person. This will enable us to continue to have enough money in our account to run the Centre for the benefit of the members.
At the moment, we have stopped providing refreshments at our noggins due to the difficulty with finding a permanent venue. As and when we find a permanent and suitable venue we will consult the membership to see if this is something that they wish to see continued.
Something else we need to start thinking about is the CranMog 50th Anniversary year which will be 2023,next year! If anyone has any good ideas about what we can do to celebrate please let us know. A new car badge might be a possibility. We haven’t had a new one since our 40th Anniversary.
Membership will still be up for renewal in April. This will be organised by the new Centre Secretary.
The MSCC want all Centre Secretaries to use a generic club email address, this reduces the risk of a breach of GDPR. I had not done so earlier as I was hoping to handover to a new person taking over from me. The email address has been set up and the advantage of this generic email address is that it can be shared.
The email address will be cranmog.sec@morgansportscarclub.com It is already working but any emails sent to that address at the moment are automatically forwarded to my current email address.
Don’t forget the Centre Secretary is also your representative at the MSCC NCM’s. If you want any matter raised or information please contact them.
Since MOG2016 when Medical Detection Dogs was chosen as our Charity for that event, we have continued to support that charity in a very small way. As a Centre we have not given a large amount to charity, just any small sums left over from suitable events etc. We have felt that people give enough to charities that they choose to. We think that for the next year we would like to continue in the same vein and continue to support Medical Detection Dogs but would ask that before the next AGM to be held in January 2023 we ask for nominations for other charities that the Centre would like to support and put the varying suggestions forward to be voted on at the AGM.
As you are aware this year, there are some changes to the current CranMog Committee. Janet Winn is standing down as Treasurer. John Winn is standing down as the Regalia Officer and David Robinson as the Webmaster. Monica Robinson has also assisted with updating the Event Calendar on the CranMog website and will no longer be continuing in that role.
I and CranMog have been very fortunate to have had their assistance over the past few years. The Centre would not have been able to function as well as it has without them. They have all worked very hard and have spent a considerable amount of their own time working on behalf of CranMog. Thank you all very much.
I have also been assisted by Sue Hartgrove who has organised the Event Calendar on our behalf last year and to Karen Moody who has done a great job taking over the organisation of the Membership list for me.
I would like to welcome all those who have newly volunteered to put themselves forward for election for the Officer roles at the AGM.
Chris Moody as Treasurer
Neville Blunt as the Regalia Officer
Jim Scaife as Webmaster
Sue Hartgrove as Event Coordinator
Karen Moody as Officer without Portfolio
I would also like to thank all of you for your support of CranMog over the past year, once again it has been a difficult year. Thank you as well, once again to the Officers of the club, without their efforts we would not have a Centre.
Philip Bell our President, Haydn Lightfoot the Chairman, Janet Winn, our Treasurer, John Winn, our Regalia Officer, David Robinson , our Webmaster, Vanessa Barham, our officer without portfolio and Monica Robinson for her help with the Events Calendar on the website.
We now come to the replacement of the Centre Secretary. When I wrote my Centre Secretary report for last year and expressed my wish to stand down in 2022, little did I realise that I would also want to stand down as I would no longer be living in the area! You are all aware that Peter and I moved to Shropshire last June. I have continued in the role at a distance for the past 6 months but I am definitely giving up the role at the AGM next week.
I and all of CranMog should be very grateful to Vanessa Barham for agreeing to take over the role once again, in order for the Centre to continue. If she hadn’t, CranMog would not have been able to carry on as a Centre of the MSCC. All centres must have a Centre Secretary. Vanessa has agreed to take over the role until someone else volunteers to takeover. Vanessa has previously served as the centre Secretary from 2006 – 2009. Thank you very much Vanessa, CranMog will be in very good hands.
I have very much enjoyed my time in the role since I took over in 2012. I had no idea that I would be carrying out the role for the next 10 years. Thank you all for your assistance and appreciation over the past 10 years. You all know that I have carried it out in my own sweet way, no one is perfect! I don’t particularly like administration work and I’m not particularly well organised but I think I’ve probably done a good job of disguising it!
It has been a wonderful role for meeting and getting to know you all, I now consider so many of you to be good friends and I will certainly miss seeing you all so often. However, we will still be ‘Zooming’ regularly and Peter and will certainly still be joining you at many CranMog and MSCC events in the future. You are all also very welcome to visit us here in Shropshire. I might even have to organise a CranMog trip up here at some point!
I think that is almost all I want to say for now. Peter and I are members of other Centres as well as CranMog and have already joined the local ones in our new area. However, we will always be first and foremost, enthusiastic CranMog members as CranMog holds a very special place in our hearts.
Finally, I’d like to wish you all a Happy New Year and let’s hope for more improvement in 2022.
